Klober exhibited at Ecobuild for the first time this year and focussed on the issue of airtightness of roofs in relation to the Code for Sustainable Homes. Interest among the record 41,000 visitors in our newly published literature and accompanying CPD presentation and the number and quality of visitors exceeded all expectations. Managing Director David Arendell commented, “Both the show and Klober’s attendance were an outstanding success”.
Despite having among the toughest building regulations in Europe, almost a third of new homes still failing to meet energy efficiency guidelines according to the Energy Saving Trust’s Chief Executive Philip Sellwood. He told the BBC that the Government's 'Code for Sustainable Homes' is not being adequately enforced in terms of energy efficiency. Failing to achieve the right balance between airtightness and controlled ventilation presents a real risk of condensation within the roof space. With every upgrade in insulation standards, so the risk increases. Energy and CO2 emissions make by far the biggest overall contribution to the nine method of assessment categories within the CSH and as more homes are designed to meet the criteria of levels 4-6, so the importance of air leakage increases”.
