Five minutes with Layla McCourt, Area Account Manager for Scotland and Ireland (NI & ROI)

What does a typical day as an area account manager (AAM) look like?
No day looks truly the same, but that’s what I love about the job. As an AAM for Scotland and Ireland, I oversee the accounts across these regions. Each week, I visit roofing contractors and builders’ merchants to nurture those relationships, working to identify new opportunities and support those who sell our products.
Although the focus is ultimately to generate sales, my favourite part of the role is travelling the country and meeting with my customers. I also work on strategic account planning with our national accounts teams, whilst offering technical support to our customers. I find it particularly rewarding to know I have helped them to grow their business.

How did you first get started in the industry?
I’ve been in the roofing industry for seven and a half years, having first entered the industry when I started working for Klober in 2014. Prior to that, I worked in a similar role in the beauty industry. From make-up and skincare to roofing - you couldn’t get much more
different than that!
It was Klober’s position as a market leader that initially attracted me to the brand, but having worked in the industry for more than seven years, it’s safe to say it’s a move I am extremely pleased with.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Klober?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. I have an amazing customer base and I’m extremely lucky to be part of such a fantastic team here at Klober. I love travelling and meeting different people, especially when I can provide training for customers, architects and local colleges. I also relish networking opportunities at trade shows, and I’ve really enjoyed attending them again since restrictions have allowed.

What’s been your career highlight?
The highlights of my career centre around contributing to the change and growth of Klober, especially given the competitive nature of the market. I continue to remain focused on my goal to consistently provide trusted help and advice going forward.

What’s your favourite Klober product and why?
It has to be our lead replacement substitute: Wakaflex. It’s extremely versatile and can be used for numerous applications. What’s more, there's nothing else quite like it on the market. When I first started working with Klober, Wakaflex was my key focus so it really feels like my baby! I had the pleasure of visiting the factory where the product is manufactured which gave me insight into the full process.

If you could teach your younger self one thing, what would it be and why?
No one ever made history by playing it safe, so I would teach myself to take every opportunity that presents itself even if it seems daunting. I’d also tell my younger self to never stop learning – patience and persistence ultimately pay off. My motto is: positivity is infectious.

What are your hobbies outside of work?
Hiking and walking on the beach with my family and dog is how I like to spend my time outside of work. I’m also an avid darts player and enjoy boxing. Something people might not know about me is my passion for tarot reading.
